I don't know much about this program other than it is small (2 residents per year). Can anyone please comment on the quality of this program in regard to the following parameters:

Fellowship preparation (retina)
Surgical numbers/Clinical training
Resident friendliness
Research opportunities

In order to make this interview it would require changing of plane tickets ($$), considerable stress and leg work, and potentially compromise (if plane delay) an interview the next day on the West Coast which is my 1st or 2nd choice. Trying to decide if it is worth it...Thank you!!🙂

I did a month there as a med student and I loved it there. True its a small program (though this year they took 3) and there isn't that much to do in Syracuse, but the program itself is great. The 3rd years when I rotated were approaching over 200 cataracts, so the numbers are good. The only specialty lacking is oculoplastics. Also the chairman is probably one of the nicest guys you'll meet. In my mind, it's worth the trip. Alot of ppl say the program isn't strong but then again most people havent experienced the program first hand. I'd personally take the invite -i think you will be pleasantly surprised

I would comment Oculoplastics is actually one of their strongest presence. There are now 4 oculoplastic surgeons that work with the residents so there is clinic almost every week and the first years get in on a lot of surgeries. It is a community program heavy on clinic and surgical experience. They have two years of three resdients and one year of two residents. They are planning on getting another resident in the next year for a total of 9.

I heard from a current resident they work really hard and get excellent training. Call was heavy but I'm not sure how that changed with the 3 residents.
