actually quite easy.. its getting one's foot in to cardiology which is the toughest..
Wrt imaging, programs are increasingly shying away from fellows who have not done cardiology.

Agree with that. Doing "superfellowship' is easier. So many interventional spots go empty every year despite the fact that there are so many job openings on ACC website for interventional cardiologists.

Most of the CT/MRI programs across the country and at my institution too are under radiology and radiology residents are the preferred candidates unless cardiology is calling shots. Secondly, the CT/MRI fellowship for radiology applicants is only for a year but for cardiology trained fellows, it runs 2 years.

Some imaging fellowships do require you to have finished cardiology fellowship. In addition, many of these at better programs (cleveland clinic, mgh, mayo clinic) are already filled with internal candidates long before you even think of applying from the outside.
