Does anyone know if there's a requirement that doctoral practicum student supervisors be both licensed psychologists AND graduates of APA accredited programs in order for prac students to be able to count those supervision hours as supervision by a licensed psychologist, or where I might go to find this information? Thank you!

Licensed, obviously.

No to having to have attended an APA accredited program...although actually getting licensed as a psychologist from an unaccredited program is often very difficult.

If you're doing clinical work under someone, they better be licensed. Otherwise, someone is looking at the high likelihood of a lawsuit.

Right now this is a hypothetical situation of a cohort-member working under a supervisor next semester who is licensed but did not attend an accredited program. We were wondering if that made any difference in counting supervision hours. Licensed yes always, accredited not always seems to be the takeaway.

No one asks if the supervisor is from a program/internship that accredited when reporting hours to APPIC, in part because it may be hard for the student to track it down by year. Licensure is the gateway for ensuring quality providers and dealing with that mess (evidently that's how far the buck gets passed down, but that's another issue).

The issue of how quality the supervisor may be and what they to provide in terms of clinical growth is another issue..
