Hey Everyone,

So, I had an urgent Q. regarding the Supplemental material for the schools. Can we use the "Additional Information" Q. to just reiterate the Disadvantaged Status story, or do we actually write something different for it? I'm really confused as to what I should put there.

Please feel free to shower me with advice and wisdom 😀

I need to submit the one for Nova today, so I'm kind of in a rush too 🙁

Thanks as always!

"Additional Information" means additional information. You should not be rehashing your URM status.

So i definitely dont remember anything about saying im URM;P

Asian. overrepressented if anything. I meant if its advisable to restate the disadvantaged circumstances from AADSAS

U're asian? If so, then you are not URM. Minority, yes, but not under represented, and definitely not disadvantaged.

Disadvantaged is not a race, it is a situation. I am white and considered disadvantaged due to my upbringing and other things. I am not including it in the additional portions of my supplemental application since it is in my AADSAS application but I don't know if that is good or not. Just letting you know what I am doing.

Yes tell your sappy tear jerking pull their heart strings story as much as you can and maybe they'll feel sorry for you by that point that they'll accept you out of pity. (okay so I went overboard on the sarcasm). I guess the question falls to you, is that your goal? You already told them once, do you think the second time is going to give you extra help?

haha ok got it. probably just leave it blank ..

but yea thanks for pointing out to some of us that being a minority is not equal to being disadvantaged. . i tried but obviously failed

I don't think the purpose of claiming disadvantaged status is to get pity from dental schools. It is a way for them to see challenges that some people have had to overcome that the vast majority of applicants never had to deal with. I wouldn't want to be accepted out of pity, but I do want schools to know some of the difficulties that I and other disadvantaged students have had to go through. It's basically a 2nd personal statement. 😉
