Supplemental Books

Hey I'm going to be a first year undergrad student this fall and I'm just wondering if buying books like "chemistry for dummies" and all those are worth the money at all. Are they a good supplement to the class and textbook or are they just a redundant waste of money? If you think they help, what books would you recommend?

Eh, I got Calc for dummies, and it maybe cleared up one or two things, but a much better (and free) resource is the internet. Whenever I was confused on anything in Ochem or even more so, Physics, I would just throw it into good ol' google or wikipedia and most of the time it worked like a charm.

Eh, I don't know about the "For Dummies" series (I prefer Barron's, Schaums, etc) but sometimes those kinds of books come in handy. Using Half or Amazon to find used copies of the books for cheap is useful too.

Yeah. Google is one of my best friends I have.

You can definitely find any supplemental materials you need to help you learn something online for free if you search around. I wouldn't recommend purchasing any supplemental books beyond the textbook for the course.
