Hey there SDN,
I have a question.
I'm going to start studying for the DAT and I want to make sure I nail it the first time.
BUT I came across something as I was reading these forums that some people were taking
supplements to enhance their study habits.

I never took these supplements studying throughout undergrad but that's cause I never knew about these and I'm thinking why not?
I don't want to take prescription drugs for obvious reasons (illegal, side-effects, expensive, etc)
I've heard of this drug called Doxiderol, is it good?
What are some good supplements to consider?
Do you guys mind sharing your experience with these supplements?

Thanks!

Besides "study drugs" such as adderall, there isn't really anything you can/should take. You shouldn't take any drug unless you're prescribed it. It's sad and ironic that health professions use these drugs.

Nootropics do exist, however. You shouldn't ask for such advise here. Just study as hard as you can. Your DAT score will reflect your work. If you cheat, you may end up getting a good score when you don't deserve it. Come time for dental school, you will be under-qualified and will suffer.

Just take your standard omega-3 fatty acids daily, a good multivitamin, breakfast, plenty of water, sleep, exercise, and a healthy diet. This is the only "supplementation" you need.

thanks for your response,
I'm debating whether or not to take any supplements since it might be a waste of money and have no effect.
I don't believe however taking these pills is "cheating" since I will be putting my best efforts into studying regardless of these supplements.
It's like same as someone working out taking protein supplements.
Why can't I ask advice on here on this topic here? I'm seeking help from those who have taken drugs with positive effects.

+100000000 (sorry OP... I understand that this a highly debatable topic. We can bring in fairness, ethics, personal freedom/choice, and all that good stuff... but like you said you will be putting your "best efforts into studying regardless of these supplements" and I think that is more enough for you to do well on the DAT.. that's just my 2 cents...)

Nothing that wasn't said before:

The 3 best supplements to studying

#1 SLEEP

#2 Eat Healthy

#3 Drink Water

In addition taking breaks and leaving some time (even if only an hour or so) for exercise or recreation will help tremendously.

No need for drugs unless you really have some sort of condition in which the doctor feels you need something. As far as natural supplements check out your local health food store. They may have some suggestions (Ginko Biloba 😉)

Hey there, I personally tried Doxiderol. And to me it is too good to be true. It does not work that well, I am better off with a vente ice coffee from Starbucks, and a short nap. I ordered 90 pills, and I am planning to return them soon.

These are the supplements that worked well for me:

1- STUDY HARD

2- STUDY HARDER

3- STUDY EVEN HARDER

4- RELAX IN BETWEEN STUDYING

5- EAT WELL

Hey OP, there was a similar post about this in the past. I absolutely agree with what everyone is saying on this post. Its super important to sleep, keep hydrated at all times, and to relax every now and then. However, I would like to say that I took Doxiderol when I was studying for the DAT. I thought it worked pretty well for me. I didnt feel like a crazy rush or anything, just helped me wake up and focus (it beats taking a red bull to study, which was my usual routine haha)

Take Vit B12. Makes a world of difference. Body doesn't make it so if you're deficient, there won't be enough energy for your body.

Fish oil is good for the brain - I like the cod liver oil capsules, but you have to eat them with dinner or your breath smells fishy.

I think a lot of people forget to eat well when they're studying hard. Lots of green veggies, some protein, and fruit is good for you. Keeps the wheels churning!

So OP, in essence,

You can start up supplements that are good for general help. Yes B vitamins may help. Good old ascorbic acid is always nice. A multivitamin will do great. Fish oils are very helpful.

As everyone else has pointed out. The best supplement is no supplement and i stand behind this.

Hi, So you think is a waste a money to buy those pills?, did they help you at all? thanks
