Hey folks,

I'm applying for a cornea fellowship and match day is tomorrow (12/08/09)!

I heard a rumor that for the regular ophtho match, there's an e-mail that gets sent out the night before to those unfortunate enough to NOT match (something to do with scrambling... I don't know). There's no question that nothing will go out to those that DO match. Is the e-mail for non-matchers true? If so, it must be new because I don't think that was the case when I applied. Anyway, anyone know if this may be the case for the fellowship match as well?

Thanks

anybody have any thoughts? I'm applying to the Residency match and would like to find out also what goes down for the residency match.

Do you get an email either way the day before, a rejection email, a call from your PD/dean/matched program's PD, etc.

from what I recall a few years back. Those that dont match get a rejection email the morning of, those that do match get only a phone call from their matched program program director or home dean's office

Okay folks, it's the original poster again. I found out I matched in cornea (my top choice)!

For those of you curious, I got an e-mail at 11am (morning of the match) saying that I matched somewhere and that the program should be contacting me. I got a second e-mail at 4pm telling me where I matched in fellowship. I also got a phone call from the program I matched at.

I don't know if this is also how the regular ophtho match in January will work, but that's how my fellowship match went down today. Good luck, everyone.

congrats strongbad!

so for those going into the reg ophtho match (1st baby step..) i just matched this past jan and it's true... if you matched you get an email the night before (i think i got mine around 7-8pm central time) but it doesnt say where. for me actually, the program director called me that night as well (guess the programs do actually get it the night before) but i know a lot of my peers who also matched with me got the call from the program the morning of match. not sure if it'll run that way this yr, but i had heard the yrs prior to me the email thing seemed consistent.... good luck!! 😀

Not true, I didn't get an email when I matched residency. Just a phone call form the PD the morning of.
