I was wondering if there are general surgpath fellowships that offer 6 months of gen surgpath and then 6 months of subspeciality fellowship (ie GI, GU etc.). In my interview trail I heard that Univ of Michigan has that kind of program. I was wondering if there are others?

Thanks!

What I remember from residency is hearing from senior residents that because most of these fellowships are not ACGME accredited, there is a fair amount of flexibility in how one's time is spent. That is, if you say what you want while interviewing and they agree to it, then it can be done. Not sure what places would or wouldn't agree to it; I suppose it'd depend on how essential that surg path fellow is to the department's work flow.

The Univ. of Pennsylvania's surgical pathology fellowships allows you to graduate with an additional certificate (aka "concentration") in a chosen field. You can pick from various subspecialties such including GI, derm, & neuro.
