Surgeons billing for anesthesia

"Ten states so far opted out of the medicare requirement for billing anesthesia services only if it is administered by an anesthesiologist. This supposedly means a nurse supervised by the surgeon can bill for anesthesia service."

I came across this while reading different things on anesthesia.

Can anyone elaborate on this? Has this been convoluted somehow? Anyone know the 10 states?

those medicare opt-outs have nothing to do with surgeons.... it means that medicare will reimburse CRNAs without the requirement of ANY physician supervision. It means that in those 10 states, CRNAs can provide anesthesia on their own and bill medicare for it. surgeons cannot bill medicare for anesthesia if the CRNA bills for it...
