I know there's been discussions about shelf books, but it seems like opinions are all over the place. So I just want to open up the poll again, specifically between these 2 books. My shelf is coming up, and considering I feel like I didn't retain anything that I read through the first time, I want to skim through a book again. If I have time for only one book, do you recommend NMS casebook or Case Files as the most beneficial/relevant for the shelf?

I used case files and liked it a lot. In fact, I've used that series for almost all my rotations. I've heard good things about NMS casebook as well, though.

I swear by the nms casebook to just about anyone who'll listen to me. I thought it was the single best book I found for the rotation. I found out about it in the second month the rotation after using casefiles and some other stuff for a while...Just my personal experience, but if I could start it over again I'd use the nms one all the way through and cut out most if not all the other things I tried. For what it's worth, surgery was my first rotation of the year and I rocked the shelf and honored the rotation.

I do think casefiles is good too; there's def nothing wrong with it...In general I think casefiles is pretty solid for just about every rotation and I used them heavily all year. The only knock on them is that what the stuff in there is important and well organized and high-yield, sometimes you can feel like you're missing some things, and in the case of surgery I thought the nms one was a little more complete and a little more in depth.

Another vote for NMS redbook. I liked the organization, and I felt they hit most topics very well.

I used NMS and the Pestanza Review. By far, Pestanza was the most helpful. I had lots of Vascular,Ortho, and Urology on my exam in June

I liked Case Files a lot and felt that it provided good preparation for the shelf. I also used First Aid.

Can anyone elaborate on what NMS has that is better than casefiles or what casefiles has that makes it better than NMS?

Also, in terms of ease of reading, which would be better?

Thanks in advance.

can anyone tell me what version of nms casebook you are using. I can only find the 2002 version in amazon.com
