this has been discussed ad nauseam, but we all know the surgery shelf has lots and lots o medicine.

what do you read ahead of time to prepare yourself for it if you haven't had medicine?

Trying to study medicine for the surgery shelf is stupid. The "medicine" on the surgery shelf is almost all peri-operative management. What you have to know about is the management of surgical patients.

Know surgical diseases; know the complications of surgical diseases; know all the options for treating them, including non-surgical ones; know the complications of the different treatments. This stuff is well-covered in Lawrence (and other places). And know trauma: ABCDE.

Good luck.
