My first 6 months of residency has not been very educational. I was hoping there might be surg path fellows or attendings who would be willing to tutor me in surg path and help me answer my basic questions a couple of hours per week. I can cover the cost. Don't the senior residents / fellows at your program help you? I've stayed after hours on occasion to babysit the junior residents. I didn't think it was that big of a deal, & I wasn't getting paid for it.

It's really sad you dont have ppl helping you. I guess you have to explain your situation. Do you have teaching at signout? Are you allowed to handle your cases or are cases taken away from you and signed out by the attending?

Soooo..because I was a bit bored, finished signing out my entire caseload for all my businesses before 9:30am (slightly slow today), I decided to cruise the WWW and look at pics of residents...

Lo and behold, UCLA class photo for 2010. There are some SERIOUS hotties in there. Is this like this everywhere now?? Pathology used to be slim pickings. Could I sneak back into residency and pretend to a transferring PGY-2 or what?

Repping or hostessing. Not to say there are no hot chicks in medicine but let's face it if a girl is as hot as Megan fox or Natalie portman or Brooklyn decker or Erin Andrews and you are uber intelligent, you do not go into
pathology. You go into modeling actressing or sports reporting ad you will earn ten times as much money and hang out with infinitely cooler people.

Seriously, though, all the hot women that somehow choose medicine instead of flashing their pearly whites to win friends and influence people, flash their pearly whites and flip their hair into a cosmetic dermatology residency. The only hot women you're going to see in pathology aren't doctors, but play them on tv.

too true. and the better older women look.

But back to the tutoring thing high school kids pay $50 an hour for tutoring and that is for basic stuff like chemistry and algebra. How much would tutoring for something as advanced as surg path be, 200/hr? What resident could pay that? I would stick with reading text books, going to conferences, paying attention in sign-out and reading about your cases. You get paid to do that stuff rather than paying someone else.
