Hello,

My name is Sean Rowan and I am graduate student at National University in San Diego CA. I'm in the process of completing my final Integrative Project for the my Masters Degree in Human Behavior. I am conducting research on Increasing Admission of Underrepresented Minorities to Health Professions Programs and factors that deter students from health professions careers. I am looking for minority (African-American, Hispanic, Latino, Native-American) and non-minority Pre-Health and Health Professions Students to answer a few questions about how they prepared or are preparing for a career in the health professions. If you are interested in helping with my research, please answer the questions below and forward them to me via email at [email protected]. Your participation would be greatly appreciated.

1. Ethnicity

2. Age

3. Gender

4. Location (City & State)

5. What made you decide to pursue a career in the health professions?

6. Are you a first generation college graduate?

7. Does anyone in your immediate family possess an earned graduate degree?

8. Did your junior high school or high school provide career guidance? If yes, did you find it helpful in your preparation for a career in the health professions?

9. When you decided to pursue a career in the health professions, were you aware of the amount of education that was required?

10. Were you involved in any type of pipeline program geared at motivating youth toward careers in the health professions? If yes, what impact did it have on your preparation? If no, do you believe a program of this type would have been helpful?

11. What are you doing or what did you do to prepare to apply to a graduate health professions program?

12. Do you have a mentor in the health professions? If yes, how involved has he/she been in preparing you for a career in the health professions? If no, would it have been helpful to have a mentor in the career that you are pursing?

13. Does or did your undergraduate institution provide advisement via a Health Profession Advisor? If yes, did you or have you interacted with the Advisor and how helpful was he/she?

14. Have you encountered any perceived barriers or discrimination while preparing for a career in the health professions? If yes, what are your perceptions?

15. What was the major factor that resulted in your decision to pursue or not pursue a health professions career?

16. If you were previously a health professions major but have decided not to pursue a career in the health professions, what major or career field have you chosen in place of the health professions and why?

17. Is there anything else that you wish to add?

Thank you for your consideration and participation. If you would like to read the completed paper please provide your email address and I would be glad to share the results with you.
