Swine Flu Alert Increased to Level 6 by WHO

If there is an increase in the WHO threat level or other significant changes, USMLE will consider the need to suspend the USMLE program until testing can be safely resumed. Please be sure to monitor the USMLE website for updates to this announcement. Of course, if you personally are experiencing flu-like symptoms, or believe that you may have been recently exposed to an influenza patient, you should reschedule your examination.

They better not suspend the tests, I have worked too hard so far to start all over.

wow, definitely mispelled flu.

Just remember that pandemic is a description of spread, not virulence. If they didn't suspend the test at level 5 in its current form, I don't see a reason why they suddenly would at level 6.

When they first emailed, I freaked out for the same reason. Since then I've spent lots of time with two people with family members who tested positive, and I live in one of the cities that is still teeming with it. Your paranoia level resets pretty soon.

Yah, but increased spread with no changes in virulence can still inhibit us from doing 3rd year. I mean the last thing they want is a bunch of med students walking around the hospital H1N1. I mean I'm not saying I think they will postpone the exam, but it is very possible. Funny thing is, any individual can postpone the exam if they "have concerns about their ability to test safely" past there 3-month eligibility period.

I have an idea, if we are concerned can we just take the exam at home on our computers (w/ FA, Robbins, wiki, etc on a bookshelf adjacent to the computer)??? 😍 hahahaha

The only reason I would think they would not postpone it here in the US is that the increased trasnmission, which caused the WHO to raise the alert level to 6, has been limited to places like Asia, Australia and other southeast Asian countries. In the US, transmission rates have remained steady. But who knows
