I applied late during the 2011 cycle for Psych and didn't get in. I started off doing IM but have resigned on good terms. I'm set on going into Psych. I'm a DO 2010 graduate. Any suggestions to keep me "in the game" for the next cycle would be highly appreciated.

Thanks!!👍

Get a "leaving on good terms" letter from your program director. We wanted to hire someone with a similar story but couldn't get in touch with their training director as he had already left a few years ago.

BTW, do you already have a spot? If so, just start working at the program in research or in some other capacity. They should be able to work something out for you.

Take your 3rd step and get your license. That is going to be very helpful. And if you are looking for a program, you can PM me and I can tell you about
our DO program at Arrowhead.

I, myself, took a bunch of years off between internship and residency. In the mean time, I had gottn my medical license and actually went into private practice with a partner who is a psychiatrists. I knew the guy from my 4th rotation. He was the attending during my 4th year psych. He took me on board and I had a small panel of my own patients that I managed. It was an amazing couple of years! Not only did it confirm my choice of psych, I had a lot of fun doing it. And now, I am back in residency as an R-2. I feel that I didn't miss a beat and actually have some advantages over the current residents because of that work experience.

cheers.

I appreciate the advice guys.
In response to your question Manicsleep, I'm not in program at this point. I'll take your suggestion and get an updated letter from the current PD since the previous one just retired even though he's still on faculty.

peiyueng, I took step 3 in March. Will find out my results hopefully in a couple of weeks.:xf: And yes, I would be interested in the Arrowhead program so expect a PM.

Thanks again guys!
