Wait a little while before you upgrade. Firefox 1.0 is just around the corner.

i think its out now

stick to ff .93. i tried out the preview release and it's more buggy....accessing some sites w/ passwords like gmail is pretty slow....the pages doesn't seem to load quickly. no such problem in .93.

i think i noticed the same thing(s)

I just downloaded the preview release (couldn't find .93, but didn't look very hard), and so far I like it.

I use Opera usually, and I think I like that browser the most. My only problem with Opera is that if I leave it running for awhile it hogs up a lot of memory and doesn't give it back until I close it. Otherwise, it's fast, blocks pop-ups, and has nice mouse-free navigation.

After trying out Firefox for awhile, I'm back to IE. Many web pages look the way they're supposed to with IE. The new pop-up blocker is good. I can deal with the cookies--no biggie. IE and FF both consumed the same amount of memory, sometimes FF more.

The only thing I miss is the tabbed browsing. 🙁

I have had such a good experience with FF. Tabbed browsing is great, but you can use MyIE2 with IE and it will work as well. I have used .91, .92 .93 and now 1.0 PR, and it works perfectly. I like the extensions feature a lot, and having the google search area on the right upper quadrant is nice. I will stick to FF for now given several security concerns with IE....

for those of you who've been having problems w/ ff 1.0PR, go to http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-0.9/ and download FirefoxSetup.exe and you should see some improvement. The link i posted is for a developmental build of ff--the branch version--which is where the ff crew fixes bugs every day and uploads the revised files. I'ved been using the branch versions recently and works well. Since FF .9, they've switched to a new theme which ain't that great. However, you can choose Tools-->Themes and download one called 'Qute'...which has a pretty cool look...reminiscent of the older FF versions.

I have been using Firefox 1.0 on Linux for 2 weeks now. It is a solid browser. I particularly like the google engine at the top. (google toolbar is not available on Linux)

google toolbar is available (at least for windows) if u install the google extension. click TOOLS-->EXTENSIONS-->GET MORE EXTENSIONS.

while you're at it, install the weatherfox extension that puts weather notices on ur status bar, gmail notifer extension if u use gmail, image zoom (zoom on any picture), adblock to take out all ads, etc.

as per all of your recommendations, i switched to firefox, and i must admit, it's not half bad. the pop-up blocker is better than the one that IE includes with SP2 and firefox is waaaayyy better than IE at preventing unwanted cookies and trackers and all that other crap that slows down and harms your comp. the extensions are easy to install and very useful. tabbed navigating can't be beat. i've had no problems with plug-ins so far, even ESPN's Motion plug-in works perfectly (and it doesnt even show the commercials for some reason). anyhow, it's definitely worth a try if you are still using IE.

also, does anyone know how you can make all of the links open as tabbed windows? for example, if you click a link in hotmail, it usually opens in an entirely new window. how do you get it to open in a tab?

dont forget to download ADBLOCK extension. i think it is the best extension available. takes a little effort to learn to write "code" for it in order to tell it how to block ads but it is worth it.

download the extension called tabbrowser preferences. there's an option to open new links into background tabs instead of new windows.

make sure you get the right one... tabbrowser preferences.
