Switching?

I'm currently a transitional intern and would like to switch to a surgical residency. Does anyone know how this works? I know that I'll have to repeat internship. Do I apply through the regular match? Also, I have a few elective months. Can I do an away? Any problems with contract violations/withdrawing from my pgy2?

What is your PGY-2? and why do you want to leave the specialty before you even start?

One option would be to go through the match again. This can be a real pain, but could land you a categorical spot somewhere. This would be better than worrying about contract extensions as a prelim which you may be able to find without going through the match.
