I have to admit, when I first saw Swype in that commercial where the guy wins the World Record for fasted text message, I thought it looked pretty ridiculous. I was a little wary of going touchscreen only. But I have to say that after using it for the past few weeks on a lovely capacitive screen, typing on a phone has never been faster or easier. It actually is better than a full keyboard! It took about two days to get used to and a few more to get a few more needed words into the dictionary and I was ready to go. It's really a great experience, and if you want to change it up you can always touch type on it anyway (pretty decent even when you aren't swyping). And it's still in beta - the real thing should be even better!

Anyone else using Swype or know of any other great text entry systems?

What phone are you using it for? It seems like a great program, and I've only heard positive reviews so far. It's by the same guy that invented T9, and he's been working on it and retooling it for years. Wonder if Apple will allow it?

you can get a similar app called ShapeWriter for the iphone. it's a stand alone notebook but can click within the note to send to email. i like it for speed when typing out everyday language but for medical terms there's too much input of new words to the dictionary (say during a lecture) to make it fast enough. for that i stick with evernote.

I have been using it on the EVO. It's really been fantastic. I tried Shapewriter also, but Swype really just seemed more accurate, faster, and more intuitive, though I wouldn't be shocked if the iPhone Shapewriter app were more polished - it wouldn't be the first time the android app was inferior.
