I use microsoft outlook on a daily basis for calendar, tasks, and email.

I currently have a 5-year old imate (Windows mobile 5) that syncs just fine with outlook, but I'm considering buying something with a little more juice.

With the upcoming release of windows phone 7, buying a windows mobile device now probably wouldn't be the wisest thing to do, so I was wondering if anyone knows how to sync microsoft outlook with an iphone or android device or if it's even possible?

Thanks in advance. 🙂

I use outlook as well and my iPhone syncs easily with the contacts, notes, and calender. It also downloads the settings for any webbased email such as gmail and automatically sets up those emails in your iPhone.

I don't know about the android based phones

I can't speak for all Android phones, since the software does differ a bit based on the manufacturer, but with any HTC Android based phone you will be able to pretty easily sync Outlook (mail, calendar, tasks, etc) either from directly your computer using the included HTC Sync program (I think Motorola includes a similar program with the Droid, but I don't know for sure) or over the air using the ActiveSync protocol if you're outlook is based on an Exchange Server.
