I am trying to think of another word for 'go through' in this paragraph. I cant think of anything good. Go through sounds too conversational. Additionally, what's a better word for 'process' (so that I may replace one of the two in the paragraph)
Any suggestions please? Thanks

....My father had medical problem....I was by his side during his examinations and surgeries. His doctor detailed every step of the process, always answering questions while respecting our feelings. As I witnessed my father go through this process, with support from health care practitioners, I soon became sincerely interested with the facets of medicine.

Replace "witnessed him go through this process" with "watched him work".
It helps you to avoid repeating the word "process" and gets your point across in less of an unnecessarily complicated way.

Marshds's edit is a good one. To write something that flows well you'll want it to be like that. Avoid immediate repetition and eliminate unnecessary wordiness.

Thanks, so why is it The doctor and not His doctor?

I think it sounds better. There is nothing wrong with using “his” though. It is just a personal preference and really does not matter. I would change other things too, but it is your statement. Good luck, writing a personal statement is hard. It sounds like you have a core experience to build off of though, which is half the battle.
