Greetings,

I am looking at getting a tablet, or the like, so that I can write on the screen to take notes in medical school. I want to know if anyone has done this and is either disappointed in the performance of their tablet or they do not feel that they are fully utilizing its capabilities. Please post the Model and specs of your tablets. Also, if you are quite pleased with your tablet, or if you would not recommend this course of action, post your thoughts as well.

I am considering getting a tablet for everyday use in class and a desktop or slightly higher end laptop for mostly keeping at home. Tips are also appreciated.

Thank you,

Sachmo

Some med schools (mine included) distribute tablets to students and you're required to use it. No option if you've already got one - you're still charged for the new one. You might hold off, unless you just want one anyway.

I have an iPad which is good because the app selection is great (and I have an iPhone so everything matches up.) I have played around with the Surface tablets and like those as well. I think it all comes down to personal preference. You should go to Best Buy and test them out to see which one fits you better.

I am currently checking into this. I hadn't put much thought into that. Thanks!

I am looking at the Surface tablets because I have always used windows thought I have heard good things about Mac except that not all school required software is always compatible with iOS. That being said, it seems that most students do not have any issues. I may take a trip and see what tablets fit, thank you!

If you want a tablet you can write with (i.e. you can write on the screen legitimately with palm rejection and an active digitizer) then you have to go Windows. Android devices like the Galaxy Tab are pretty lackluster. The Surface Pro 3 is the first thing to come to mind, but the Surface 3 just came out and also seems acceptable though the pen is sold separately (last I checked around $49). These machines also run full Windows and will handle any applications you need on that front. Both of these tablets also have docking stations which you can buy which will allow them to be hooked up to Ethernet/mouse/keyboard/monitor when you get home (last I checked around $199) which may also save you money if you plan on buying another separate one for that scenario.
