So I'm starting my new attending job in a month and have been approved for a tablet PC in order to streamline documentation. Basically, it's an inpatient adolescent unit so I'll be using the tablet and our new EMR templates to document nursing report during morning rounds, check boxing the MSE when I meet with the kids in the office, and jotting some notes during family meetings. Any one already using a set-up like this and have recommendations for specific tablets they like?

I don't know about tablets, but I love my Toshiba laptop.

I thought tablet PCs were kind of a failed technology. I know at our clinics, we've replaced them with laptops, which seem to work as well and are cheaper. I'd go for a Macbook personally. 🙂 Mine's compatible with our citrix based EMR.

For tablets, go with the Lenovo X61. It's pricey, but it's the best tablet around, imho.

Strongly recommend getting a tablet that converts into a regular laptop. I usually use mine in laptop mode, but it's very handy to swing the screen around and fold it into a tablet to make hand notations and whatnot.

Tablets are great if you have a need for a tablet. Laptops are great if you need a laptop. You'll find disgruntled tablet users when they try to use tablets when they really need laptops. This is why the convertables are great.
