Did any BS holders ever TA (or hold a research assistantship) during pharmacy school (if you went to a public university)? Or do you know of any other professional students who did? I was reading about this on one university's website. I think it would be nice to TA or RA during pharmacy school, but I was always under the impression that these assistantships were primarily given to graduate students. Also not sure how this would work out time-wise...

I currently teach General Chemistry labs at a small private university in the same town as my University. I called up and asked if they needed anyone to teach and they did. They don't have a steady stream of starving grad students to serve as TAs. It's 6 hrs/wk and the contract pays my mortgage each month that I teach. It's far better than working3 or 4 times as many hours at a pharmacy (though I do also work 15 hrs/wk at a pharmacy). I also enjoy general chemistry and the students I have. I would highly recommend looking into it if it's possible where you are.

Thanks Fargoan, you answered my unasked question (ie. whether it's possible to attend school, TA, and work in pharmacy part-time. This is what I'm hoping to do).

I actually think the TA position, due to it's financial benefits, allows me to work fewer hours in the pharmacy while still allowing me to pay my bills. But I'm still working around 20-25 hours a week total, which has been doable up to this point. I'm also guaranteed every Sunday off b/c the pharmacy is closed. So that one day of regrouping really helps my sanity, my housekeeping, and sometimes even getting my homework/reading done.
