I am a new member, but I've been lurking around here for a while now. I am a junior at a top 10 university, I have almost completed my pre-med and major requirements , will have a few left for senior year, while finalizing my classes for this spring semester, I am trying to decide on a fourth class and I am leaning towards taking a class in dance as I am a dancer and love to dance! I wanted to take it next year but due to the logistics of my other classes , I am not able to take the other required classes this semester. Assuming that I apply at the end of this year, would it look ok on my transcript if I took a dance class before completing the 2-3 other pre-med/major requirements . I will definitely be able to do them in my senior year and again I have finished all the major pre-med courses like physics/chem/bio.

Dance is one of my major ECs, if that makes a difference.

One of my favorite interview questions this season applying to residency was, "tell me about a non-medical course you took in college that you enjoyed." I'm glad I had something to talk about! You'll never have as much freedom to learn things that interest you outside the medical field again, so take advantage.

If you like dancing definitely take it. If you can handle two of them without affecting anything except increasing your mood, take both.

Thanks for your responses!

Any more opinions ?
Take the dance class. You seem to be getting a pretty unanimous response here. I doubt you'll get many/any people telling you not to take it.

It definitely won't look bad. And, this may not be a consideration for you, but one of my current regrets as a grad was not taking a dance class in college. They are much harder to find/ pay for after graduating... However, how many credits is it? It is pass/fail or graded? Are there lots of responsibilities outside of class? At my undergrad gym/dance classes were one credit and were just the time needed to be in class. Could you take an extra academic class on top of it?

Oh, I might steal that question.

Got it! Thanks everyone!

areserine, this is a regular class that gives letter grades.
