I wanna to take a intro. to German to see what's like to speak German. But is it there a point?? I doubt I will continue on after taking this beginning course.

take it. it'll be easy and you might end up liking it.

I took french 1 with no intention of continuing on... the only thing I remember is:

Voulez-vous un verre de jus d'orange?

(Would you like a glass of orange juice?)

so, German is a pretty ez langage to learn? 🙂

take classes that you will enjoy. it sounds like you will enjoy this class.

No...from people I know who have taken German and Romance languages, German is much more difficult.

futuremsfdoc, unless he's familiar with the German department at your school, has no place to tell you it's an easy course. The hardest course I've ever had, by far, in four years of undergrad, two years of post-bacc, and two years of MS, was a language course.

I would suggest only taking it if it will fulfill a graduation requirement. You may find that you like it and continue on to develop a good understanding of the language, in which case the class will be worthwhile. But if the course doesnt fulfill a requirement, and you don't continue on, you will have wasted an opportunity to take another class, and may end up with a grade that you dont want (i.e. anything less than an A). Bear in mind that what you learn in an intro course will be quickly forgotten if you don't practice it, and will not help you in a visit to Germany or Austria (you won't understand the dialect).
If you live in the States, I would recommend a Spanish or Mandarin course, as even an intro course in those languages may help you in your future profession, while German probably will not.

Ich bin jetzt in Deutschland. Ich bin ein Student und finded es sehr gut. Ich fahren auf den USA am Samstag.

Well Fred, welcome back to the States! I hope you enjoyed your stay in Germany.

Hi!

You should definitely take German! I took German 101 during my first semester of college, and ended up changing my major from Biology to German. I studied abroad junior year and deferred med. school for one year to work in Germany this year. It's not a hard language to learn, and it's a lot of fun! Plus, if you want to travel to Eastern Europe at all, German is sometimes more useful than English. Viel Spa?!

I also took German and ended up minoring in it. Its a wonderful language: straightforward, logical and structured. That said, its not very easy, at least in the beginning. Its very different from the romance languages like Spanish, French and Italian that we all see in high school. So, the intro course is usually not an easy course--I got a C+ in my first German course, which put a crimp on my GPA. But it gets much easier, after you start learning how the language works. Anyway, it might make you stand out from other applicants to MS if you stay with it--most people are aware that German is a tough language so it makes you look like you prefer a challenge. Anyway, best of luck!
