My gpa this semester went down the drain basically my science gpa went down .4 points! and my Cumalitive gpa went down .3 points. so i was thinking should i take a winter class and raise my gpa or should i just focus on the PCAT which i will be taking in Jan since i tanked the first one. thanks for your feedback 🙂

I'd say take one class while studying for the PCAT. Try to balance it out too.

If you could only do one, I would definitely take the class.

A low PCAT score doesn't hurt an application with a good/great GPA as much as a low GPA hurts an application with a good/great PCAT score.

If i were you, i would focus on my PCAT. Winter session is about 3 weeks which means you have to study really hard to pass the course with an A. If not you might help further tank you gpa. Focus on PCAT and if you get a good score, it could compensate for your low gpa. Its better to do one thing and do it well.

The winter class is from a community college, which is a crammed class in 3 to 4 weeks, correct? If so, I'd do both if I were you.

Take a GE class (i.e. Sociology, philosophy, etc) and study for the PCAT as well. Although it will be relative tough, I think it is manageable though. Personally, I was from a community college and took a winter class every time it was offered. I also worked as well, which could be equivalent to studying for the PCAT. At the end, I managed well and aced the winter classes I took.

I think you can equally do the same (considering that you do not have other obligations to deal with; otherwise, it is a totally different story). Good luck!

I would second that as well. Focus on PCAT and get that out of the way, then do well the next semester and bring your GPA back up.

Making the best choice would depend on your personal sincere answers to these few questionable factors:

1) How rigorous or time-consuming are those courses going to be?

2) Your academic capabilities; will it permit you to incorporate multiple academic tasks?

3) Which one are you sure of completing more successfully than the other - finishing the semester with a better GPA or a reasonably higher PCAT score?

4) Is the PCAT against which application cycle - Fall 2012 or later?

If the answer to question 4 is yes, then ignore the above questions & focus on your GPA alone. You have June, August, & October to mend your PCAT score. But you don't have that ample opportunity time to mend your GPA (in the event you blow it up)...which I think is somewhat MORE IMPORTANT than the PCAT. Believe it or not.

But nonetheless, the ultimate decision lies with you. I hope you make a wise one............based on your capabilities.

Good luck.

Well actually, that depends on where you are trying to apply too, and secondly what is your new GPA after the semester ended?... And... what is your Pcat score?... these are key things to determine where you can qualify for. These are the things you need to keep in mind, I was once in your shoes and i'm rooting for you! any questions feel free!
