Kinematics and E&M (assuming that's how your two physics courses are divided) are pretty much entirely unrelated. Material from one course is pretty much entirely independent from material in the other. At least that's what my experience was. So no, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I think it also depends on your school. For my calc based physics, the amount of calculus in the derivations and applications of physics depends solely on your professor. We have professors where your exams are only to show the proofs of the equations (all calculus) while other professors will show you how to do the calculus but will not have any on the exams. Therefore, I think that it all depends on your prof. and/or school. But I agree that both semesters are pretty independent of each other.

Next semester, I'm in a dilemma where I have to take calculus based physics 2. Right now im in algebra based physics 1.

Would calc-based physics 2 be very difficult considering i took algebra based physics 1?

Anyone?

Weird... I'm in your exact situation... I took the trig based physics 1 and later realized I needed the calc based physics... They are letting me just take the calc based physics 2 now without the pre-reqs. I'm kinda worried myself because I didn't take the calc based physics 1 and I'll be taking calc 2 at the same time which is a pre-req. I guess we'll both see how it goes! 🙂

I took both types of physics because I switched majors from a B.A. to a B.S. My input is this: I found the calculus based physics easier because it made sense versus the algebra one. But our class averages were still lower than the algebra based physics, so it is more difficult. But you'll be fine. Good luck !

Don't worry. Calc-based physics isn't hard (in fact it's easier than algebra-based physics). Problem with algebra-based physics is it's seems you have to memorize so many formulas, but calc-based physics allows for quick and simple differentiation and integration. Newton invented calculus for a reason... to simplify and clarify his work in mechanics!
