Hello All,

I am wondering if I should take the DAT this summer and wait the following year to apply to schools. I will not be able to graduate on time that is why I am considering to wait a year to apply. I finished all of O. Chem and finishing up BioChem as we speak. I have aprox 50 hours of shadowing and 20 of volunteering. I figured if I take another year I can focus on getting extra hours for both of those. All advice would be greatly appreciated!

Many schools have a 3+1 graduation plan where you can finish up an undergraduate degree with credits earned at professional school. You could apply, get in, then apply for graduation at your undergrad during your first year of dental school. Not every dental school will allow this, so be sure to check ahead of time to avoid wasting your money and time on schools you are not eligible for. Your EC game is pretty lacking right now, but if you can get that together and nail the DAT then there is no reason why you shouldn't apply this year.
