As it stands, I'm currently set to take 17 credits for the next semester. The classes basically include:

-Math
-Gen Chem II
-Gen Bio II
-English
-Intro to Music (required to graduate)

However, I'm also interested in taking a CPR course but it is 3 credits. Additionally, it only meets one time a week, so it still fits into my schedule.

Is it, in general, a good idea to take 20 credits during your second semester of freshman year if you can handle it if that "extra" class is CPR (Because, as it stands, the only classes that I will ever need to "work" on are Bio and Chem)?

A CPR course isn't going to last the whole semester, so go ahead and take it.

Go ahead and take it.

I have taking 18 credits while working full time and have done well in all of them. It all depends on how motivated and good you are at time management.

Some schools don't let you go over 18 in your first two years. Clear it with your college first. I know I couldn't go over 18 in my first two years even with great grades.

all "math" is not equal. college algebra? calc 2? 🙁

Bollocks. I can't take more than 19 credits without "special permission" and a GPA of 3.0 or better. Considering my GPA will be above that... -.-

Are you sure you won't have to "work" in you're math class? Depends what class it is i guess... At my school the calc series is one of the hardest(calc 2 is second most failed next to gen chem 1)

Also, why do you need the CPR class? If it isn't for school credits and you just want to get certified, you could find a program or class outside the school. I know of some programs that do an 8 hour, one day course for your certification.

3 credit hour CPR class? I don't think it even took me 3 hours to get my license :eyebrow:

Lol same here, a 3-hour CPR course was offered at my university, at the end of the day we took a test, passed, and got our 2 year liscence (American Heart Association). And dude for that matter, what if your English class bombards you with a bunch of papers and projects??

It should be possible. My last semester of my first round of college was twenty credits, plus a part time job. It ended up being one of my best semesters as far as GPA went.

easy schedule. freshman no doubt. lol.. gen chem and bio? like general ed classes. english and music... shouldnt you be able to clep out of that? Personally, I'm taking 21 credits next semester: 400 level bio-biotechnology, ochem 2, 300 level developmental bio, psychopharm, and spanish. buck up and take a few hard classes op.

I took 28 cr a semester, and still have 4.0. So go for it.

I'm doing 20 credits right now, 2 humanities and 3 science classes plus research and volunteering. I'm doing fairly well in all of them but be aware the time commitment becomes a lot greater with 20 credits. I usually spend 90% of my weekends doing work but believe me it's worth the extra gpa boost if you can pull an A

👍

I have a friend who constantly takes 20+ credits every semester and makes a 4.0, so it's doable...just matters how much you're into the subject and the work you're willing to put into it.

I'm taking 21credits next semester! English and music theory are easy. The others are a piece of cake too. If you were taking upper levels, I'd have some concerns.

i have a friend who took a music course last semester since he's minoring in it and he said it was hard as hell lmao. he had to memorize the notes of songs and listen to a piece of music and write down the notes or something

Its definitely manageable. But I don't suggest freshman take so many hours; I tried taking 21 hours my freshman year and failed miserably. But as I grew older and learned to study better I have been constantly taking 20-21 hours with a mixture of engineering and science courses on top of research and working as a TA.

Even with hard work, there is some luck involved. Sometimes you might be working on school 16 hours a day, but if all your classes have projects or tests on the same week, then it can be a problem. Even worse is if you have exams every week (happened to me once, not a good thing) then you will burn out. But your schedule does not look too difficult, just be cautions about when exams and projects are due. And also try to make sure the classes are not back to back or all in the same day; believe me, that makes a huge difference.
