Hi,
I plan on applying to medical schools this June and I unfortunately have a very low science gpa. However, if I take an extra 3 credit core bio course for non bio majors in the spring with my other courseload it could bring it past a 3.40. Would the core bio class count towards my BPCM gpa even though Im a bio major and I already took upper bio courses? I tried looking for other bio courses but non of those class's times work out. TIA!

if it's majority bio focused and listed as BIO it should count., I doubt 1 class like that will have any impact on your application. Try to get a high MCAT, and look at DO's as well depending on the rest of your app. Also be patient lol....

Thanks for the response 🙂 I calculated it and my science gpa will be a 3.38 if i get all As next semester but if I take this course and get an A it will boost it to a 3.41. Im nervous that a sub3.4 gpa will be automatically screened out by many medical schools. Also, i feel like a 3.41 looks so much better than a 3.38 lol. Do you think that will be a major issue?

both are low GPA's for many MD schools. hopefully you'll have a couple semesters of A's before you apply. your competitiveness will depend on your MCAT, crush it and you'll probably be fine. Also DO schools or a gap year are always an option.

I believe average matriculant sGPA is 3.64ish so youre not far off. focus on the MCAT.

A 3.38 vs a 3.41 will not matter in the slightest unless there is some school that arbitrarily has a cutoff at 3.4. While the class would count towards the BCMP, you effort should go towards the MCAT at this point.
