I am a freshman and I am taking biology 1 + lab but no chemistry. Will this delay the process because I'd have to take chem 1 and 2 next year. I can't take orgo until I take inorganic chem which is sophmore year. For some reason they didn't give me chemistry my first semester, maybe that's because I'm an allied health major. I'm taking 16 credits this semester. Kinesiology, bio 1 (2 credits), bio lab (2 credits), CMPT, religions, and psychology. Would it be better to take chem 1 with bio 2 next semester then take chem 2 in the summer, or should I just take chem1/2 in sophmore year then take orgo in junior year?
thanks.

I'd probably try to knock out physics concurrently with chem during sophomore year, then have just Ochem to deal with junior year, then MCAT in spring/summer if you're aiming to be a traditional applicant.

thanks for the reply.. so would you say the same thing if I was to take a gap year. Just hypothetically speaking. Also, how many summer classes should be my limit. Is it okay to take the main science classes during summer? Thanks.

If you were going to gap, you wouldn't have to do any prereqs concurrently. You'd just do physics and Orgo in junior and senior years (or vice versa).

As for summer classes it depends where you're taking them (same university vs community college back home), whether the extra cost is significant (usually the case for private schools), what the opportunity cost for that summer might be (eg are you taking summer Ochem instead of having a great full time clinical or lab or travel experience?). It's common for people to do a summer prereq, for example if they're going abroad for a semester or were late to realize they wanted to be premed. I just wouldn't do several in summer for no reason!
