I'm looking to supplement my test taking skill for both exams. I already bought USMLE world, but which do you think I should add - Combank or Kaplan's Qbank?

Kaplan just gave us a presentation and I really like the format of their program, plus the additional resources they have (videos, books, whatnot). But I've heard mixed reviews as to how well Kaplan will get you ready for comlex, but really great reviews for combank.

I'd like opinions of what you've heard/done, especially from people who have taken both already --thanks!

I am interested in this thread since I am in the same position, where I will be taking both USMLE and COMLEX.

all you really need for omm is savarese. he has like 500+ questions in that book and theyre all omm.

so you're saying you never did any comlex style questions? you just did the green book & did fine?

I did just a half day of Savarese and still got 650+ on the COMLEX. The OMT is mostly the viserosomatic reflexes, ask around.

Kaplan Qbank is a waste of time for COMLEX. Their Qs have a somatic dysfxn attached to every scenario so you can get the Q correct if you, in most cases, know the innervation levels etc.....This is NOT how the real COMLEX is.

For Step 1, ONLY UW + Savarese should be sufficient. Since there is, I think, a lot more overlap between the material (MOAs, ADRs, anatomy, etc) the UW Qs are enough for the COMLEX (actually a little too much but overpreparation is best).

My plan would be to study for USMLE (through UW) take the exam, do 2-3 days of Savarese & take COMLEX. The drop in knowledge in those 3 days will still leave you at a level way higher than needed for COMLEX, if you prepared well for USMLE

Good Luck.

A few questions:

I am taking USMLE June 14th and Comlex June 21st (maybe too much time between the two? it seemed like a good idea...)

I plan on preparing vigorously. My stupid question is: if I aim my preparation at USMLE type questions (UW, FA, Goljan, etc), will that be enough to do well (pass at least) on the comlex? I do own the Kaplan Qbank to mess around with before I start UW later.

Second question: is Savarese (green book) still golden standard? anyone have an opinion on this http://www.amazon.com/COMLEX-Review...lative/dp/1405104481/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

I did almost the same exact thing, date-wise, last year. The only thing that I did after the USMLE was Savarese and a little brushing up on anatomy. I used UWorld, Goljan/RR Path and FA as my main sources to study for the USMLE and that was more than enough for the COMLEX.

thanks for your response, Vee! good to hear from you. time sure does fly doesn't it? I was just an MS0 and you were an MS1 and here I am about to take my boards and you're a year and a half from getting your degree... unreal

how are the wards treating you?

It's crazy how fast third year has gone! Good luck studying - the boards will be over before you know it. 🙂
