hi guys,

would it be a good idea to take pchem to offset my grade in orgo? the "C" aspect of my BCP gpa is low, so i figured this would help..any advice?

cheers.

*edit: would a course entitled "water chemistry" help my bcp gpa? its an environmental science course at my school

If you do well then it will raise the gpa (slightly since you have most likely taken so many classes by now), but I dont think it will offset the ochem grade. However a good score in the organic section of the DAT may offset the C.

Pchem is 10x harder than organic. There is no way in hell that I would take it unless it was an absolute necessity

Exactly. Schools won't even know how hard it is and appreciate your higher grade.

Pchem is very difficult anywhere you go so the adcoms will know. When I took that class everyone I told that I was taking it just laughed, patted me on the back and said good luck. If an adcom looks through your classes and sees a good grade in pchem it can only help. That may not offset a low grade in ochem but it will definitely show you are capable of handling high level work. Now don't forget to do well in all of your other classes too because pchem can take a lot of extra studying so don't blow a semester out of the water by overloading yourself. The pchem I took was a 5 credit class, including the lab, and I spent hours studying with friends multiple times per week (not just before tests). I'd say take it if you think you can handle it and ALL of your other classes.

Why not re-take OChem instead? An A in OChem will have the same effect on your BCP GPA as an A in PChem.

Getting a Ph.D. in pchem would certainly offset the low grade in organic.
