I'm sure this is probably a common question so I apologize if I just haven't searched these threads enough... but should I even consider taking Step 2 with a Step 1 score of 260? I'm worried that there will be a program I really want to apply to that will request it or that I'll end up doing worse if I take it later which, although unable to affect interview invitation, may affect my position on the rank list. What do you all think?

As always, I really appreciate the time and advice. Thank you!

Depends on your risk tolerance, but I'd just go ahead and take it. If you've been studying hard in 3rd year and doing well on your shelf exams, you can expect to score similarly on CK. I had 12 days to study after 3rd year and it was fine. Took CS 2 weeks later too. You'll appreciated having that stuff out of the way when you see classmates trying to relearn everything after a few months of subspecialty sub-is. Plus 260 is 96th percentile for Step 1 but only 86th percentile for Step 2CK. Just shoot for a score in the 260s and you'll be fine.

US-MD?

If yes don’t bother until that sweet lil window where you can disclose the score if you so wish. A 260 means you have more room to hurt yourself than to really benefit.

Any suggestions on same situation but with a 240 Step 1 instead of 260?

Take step 2, and score higher.

240 is exactly the mean of matched applicants, a high step 2 will make you stand out from the crowd
