I was browsing through my university's course catalog and couldn't help but notice the breadth of survey and non-science-major classes (that are still catalogued as BIO, CHEM, etc.). A lot of the courses look like they would be super easy, and most of them are worth three credits. Some examples: Survey of Chem 1 & 2, Bio of the Human Body, Intro to Industrial Science, Applications of Chemistry, etc. None of these courses have any pre-reqs whatsoever, and they're all designed for non-science majors.

If I were to fill up a Maymester with a few of these bastards, would dental schools be able to see through "my plan?" Would it even matter?

I graduated last year... I also needed to boost my science GPA, so I did do exactly that...
Took classes like HIV/AIDS, Contemporary Nutrition, First Aid-CPR, etc... All of which are science classes but for non-science majors. They were super easy and helped boost my GPA up a bit. I also ended up being asked to become a Teaching Assistant for the Nutrition course... Long story short, I was accepted to 3 dental schools so far, so it's definitely not a bad idea!

Yea...i mean, as long as you can rock the science section of the DAT, then you obviously know your sciences well enough. But watch out, some of those survey courses can be hard. I took a "survey" of PChem class, and it was hard.

Thanks for both of your reassurances.

Ami, just out of curiosity, what were classes like Contemporary Nutrition filed under? BIO, CHEM, etc.? I was wondering because I thought that, to be counted in the science GPA, it had to be either a biology, chemistry or physics course.

zthang...I wouldn't ever consider touching a Pchem course, survey or not! :scared:

They were under MCDB which at my school is Molecular Cellular and Developmental Biology... Nice huh
