For the pharmacists and pharm students: are visible tattoos (ie lower arms) frowned upon in the workplace or doesn't it matter because of the lab coats? Would this affect my chance of getting a job or if they were covered would I get fired if they were discovered?

I know some pharmacists and students with visible tatoos all over their arms. I don't think they have had a hard time getting a job since there is such a shortage. I have to believe that when the time comes when it isn't as easy to get a job, they will get passed over just like they do today in the business world. If you want a professional job, look like a professional.

i keep the one on my shoulder covered...but we're also not supposed to wear sleeveless tops [so it's kinda because of that, too]

i have two on my ankle, and several of my techs have multiple visible tattoos...and none of us have gotten reprimanded or otherwise...no actually seems to notice

of course, it doesn't hurt that one of my tats says "rx"👍

Another useless post without a picture.

To the OP, I couldn't careless about the tattoo on my pharmacist. It's really none of my business. If it's offensive to others, I would simply ask to have it covered while at work. Some tattoos look good on people. I've always thought of getting a Pink Panther on a John Deere tattoo.

It depends on the place. We hired a new pharmacist once only to find that there was a problem. He had a beard and refused to give it up. Company dress and grooming policy says no facial hair. No exceptions. Dude looked perfectly professional to me.

My husband's company has a strict no facial hair policy...
At the management "christmas bonus" dinner, the division head (from the podium) called out a man in the audience who had a beard. He told him he needed to shave. Turned out he was the spouse of one of the managers, and not an employee of the company. Oops.

i've seen several techs, and a few of my classmates with visible tats, and i don't think it matters. i've got a couple, and i'm getting a few more. but when i'm at work, or on a rotation i always look professional. everybody has tats now, so i don't think it's a big deal...

A John Deere tattoo! YES! I would love to see a picture of that!

Wear long sleeves.

Had a guy told me once that if there was a policy on no facial hair, then the ladies had to wear a net also. ( i tot how weard) well we were working with food stuff

whoa! i can't believe companies can dictate whether or not men can grow facial hair. i thought it was only the tyrannt yankee's owner, george steinbrenner, that cracked down on that sort of thing. i didn't realize facial hair is unprofessional. my fiance works in finance and has always had a goatee and hasn't had any problems w/clients or progressing within the company.

i can understand professional dress, but as long as facial hair is well groomed i don't think there should be a problem.

also, as long as there aren't an excessive amount of tatoos, it should be OK. piercings too, some ppl where them b/c it's part of their culture.

I thought it was quite common. My dad was 23 years with General Motors and you could tell if he'd been on vacation. No Facial hair was the rule for middle management.

Wow! Once a pharmacist, always a pharmacist I've heard said & you'll die one!

Good for you - I've never seen that before - gotta love the rose!

Does your husband have a male verson of this? Like one with a hammer or a beer stein?

Oh.....and - cute shoes!

I think as long as the tattoo can be completely covered, there's no problem. Different managers are going to have different opinions. I, as a manager, would make it clear that visible tattoos are unacceptable as are visible piercings. My feeling is that our patients are inter-generational and most people over 45 are uncomfortable with body art. Maybe in 40 years, when all the ink is running and the skin is sagging, uncovered tattoos will be socially and professionally acceptable. Probably not, though, since that fad seems to skip generations.

Flame away... :meanie:

I think it is common. My husband's company is of similar size/stature as GM and the "no facial hair" policy applies to all management (non-union) employees. I believe that the hourly/part-timers can have it. Not 100% sure about that.

Oh - maybe......I need new glasses!

I still want to know is on Mr/Dr Tussionex?

it's on me, dr-mrs tussionex....mr tussionex has an eyeball, but that is covered by sleeves...

and yes, it's a ladybug [for my great-uncle]
