Since first round offers seem to be out, I thought I would start up the thread so we can lend a hand in sharing info about living arrangements, electives/curriculum, the school, etc etc. 😳

I'm thinking of rez would be the best idea for the first year. Apparently, renters aren't giving out apartments until August- it would suck not to get one and end up with no where to live.

Congrats all!

Yay! We've made it 🙂!
I agree, althought not keen on rez, but it seems to be the most practical atm.

I heard from someone in his 2nd year at TCD that his class is about 170 students w/ around 15 Cdns, 4US & 6mature students (over 30) + other international students. Age range of students would be about 17ish - 35. Just in case you were interested in the demographics.

Oh that is helpful! Thanks eblu 🙂 Wasn't so keen on rez either - but I guess it beats being homeless in Dublin lol! By rez, do you mean Trinity Hall? Or are there others?

Living off-campus would be nicer and more convenient. One year can't be too bad!

I think the only rez is Trinity Hall. Correct me if I'm wrong?

Hey guys! I will be in UCDs class of 2018. However, I will be looking for off-campus accommodation right away. As a matter of fact, my girlfriend and I will be heading to Dublin in mid-July just to pick one out and give a deposit, etc. So, you can snatch your apartment ANYTIME (not only starting in August as someone said above).

Have fun finding a place!

Cheers.

To add to my above post, it is FAR FAR FAR simpler to try to get on-campus living accommodations for your 1st year. It saves you the hassle of worrying about all the little details, insurance, utility bills, landlords, etc. As well, living on res 1st year gives you the opportunity to get to know the city, the best places to live/rent and where all your local shops are.

That's my two cents on the whole accommodations deal.

Cheers again.

Thanks for the advice. Any idea what to do re: cell phones? Is it best to get a cell phone there or have your current provider unlock it? I'm trying to find the most effective way to have a phone for when I'm away - but also when I'm back in Canada.

Thanks guys!

Luckily, my girlfriend is European and she knows how to handle these issues! So, for your cell, I would get it unlocked (or just do it online - by using a trusted cell phone unlocking site) and then simply purchase a sim card in Dublin. Apparently, all you do is buy the sim card and then either load it up/renew it each month (at a convenience store, etc) OR go with a monthly plan deal. The plans, even unlimited, are CHEAP so it would be a bummer to have to spend the money on buying a new phone!

As well, when you get back home, you just simply insert the Canadian SIM and chat away.

If you find that you will be needing internet (if staying off-campus), fast broad-band service is available for as little as 10 euros a month (unlimited data usage!) from a service called Sky.

Anything else, just shout out!

Cheers.

Hi everyone,

I just received my offer yesterday, but I have not yet decided if I want to accept or not. I'm trying to figure out my finances, and I was wondering how other people planning on paying for tuition + living costs. Does anyone have advice about which banks offer student line of credit with low interest rates for students attending med schools outside Canada?

Sorry if I'm asking a question that's already been answered elsewhere. I'm new to the forum :help:

Thanks! Hope to see you guys in September 🙂

Congrats on your acceptance yka212 ! 🙂 I am not sure if you got your ABP package yet - but Trinity outlines some places to get lines of credit. But any major bank could help you out - the rates are pretty good for students

Hey guys im from Louisville, KY, USA , just admitted and paid my deposit for TCD. I'll start in September. Im really excited to get to know everyone! I'll probably look for an apartment close to Trinity hopefully. I'll be in Dublin in June to look at locations etc. So I will everyone best of luck as new medical students!

Also I was wondering if we could get a Facebook page together for TCD class of 2018 to get in contact with everyone

-Thanks 🙂))

Congrats barcalover!

I've just paid my deposit as well, but it hasn't shown up on my student portal yet...:S

Woohoo #4! lol Congrats on your acceptance!! 🙂 I'm also looking for an apartment - have you heard of any areas where students tend to live?

Eblu, I paid mine last week and mine hasn't shown up either - so I gave a call today to the number in our package (Niamh Kelly) - she told me there is a glitch in the system and sent me an e-mail to confirm that they received my money and that I did accept my offer. If you give her a call (shes really nice), she could send you a confirmation! She said a lot of the international students are experiencing the same problem. Hope it all works out for you.

Yeh here is what I found on their website "Trinity offers accommodation in college residences at Trinity Hall with a range of different room types available including the standard rooms at New Square (East Range) or Rubrics, as well as more modern rooms in Pearse Street, the Graduate Memorial Building, Botany Bay, Front Square and New Square (North Range) and Goldsmith Hall. Off campus, popular areas were students reside include Ringsend, Rathmines, the IFSC, Ranelagh, Rialto and Dolphin's Barn where rents can be anything between €350 to €550."

Im personally looking for places in Dublin 2 in general since they'll be in close proximity to TCD. Good Luck on your search, Lord know i'll need it too haha

Did you guys pay using Visa or direct deposit? I paid with Visa but never got a confirmation email... yet my portal says, under "Applications" that its been received.

So, no one is going to stay in Trinity Hall for their first year?

I paid via EFT and my portal's status is still "waiting for response". I'm not sure what's going on but Niamh Kelly said she would confirm with the Treasurer's Office and get back to me. :S

hmm...Trinity Hall...did you try to apply for it yet?

I paid by VISA as well and got a confirmation immediately, try contact your credit card provider that might fix it (or not) . But I most likely will not apply for Trinity Hall,

I totally forgot but ABP emailed me and reminded me to send the form that came in our package to them. Thought I'd remind you guys too - it totally phased me! Because I didn't have the confirmation email, I sent the one I got from Nimah Kelly - and they said it was fine. They had known of the problem with TCD's new system when I told them.

lol.... trinity hall, hmmm still considering it. but i heard its kinda far. i've had students recommend adelaide square to be in walking distance. so if anyone is looking for a roommate... LOL 🙂

I was accepted last year, but had to defer...so will be starting this year!! I'm going to do Trinity Hall (that's what I'd planned on for last year as well) and a friend from the US that was able to go last year has really enjoyed it.

May I ask what are your offers (grades)?

Hey guys, is this topic still active?

Got my conditional offer in the 1st week of May, and my results came out last Friday! Can't wait for it to get changed to unconditional now. Need to get my accommodation sorted out now!
