Technology and Child/Educational Psychology

I am hoping someone out there will be able to point me in the right direction. I am very interested in the development and application of technology in child development and child psychology. Basically, I am interested in both normal and abnormal development and how technology (especially computer and mobile apps) can be used in pre-k and elementary education, to encourage development, and in various forms of therapy (behaviorally therapy, occupational therapy, etc).

I know that there must be professors out there studying this, but I am not sure how to find them. Does anybody have any leads for any schools or professors in the US or Canada that fit into this general area? Professors in Psychology, Information Sciences, Human-Computer Interaction, and Human Factors are all fair game.

I can't give you a heads-up with names, but you may want to take a look at cognitive psych folks as well. I seem to recall (a helluva long time ago) some discussions in this area, and the profs were based out of cognitive depts (and they collaborated across other areas).

education and clinical therapy, while intertwined are generally two different areas of research. ed psych and clinical psych overlap in practice for school psychologist, but i think that it's rare to find someone conducting research in both (although some research studies relationships between the two)

this prof below is pretty intensely focused on a specific cognitive developmental theory of math education and if im not mistaken he does really cool technology based learning experiments, such as teaching physics/engineering by disassembling cell phones and other lessons through building mobile apps etc..

I feel like I say this in every thread, but check out research-oriented school psychology doctoral programs--I think I've seen some research in this area in the field. I'm specifically thinking about autism and developmental disability research, if that's at all up your alley.

Who are publishing the research articles you read? Who cites them and whom do they cite in turn? Look up those people.

I second this. I've seen some collaboration between the aforementioned cog folks and school psych folks.

And definitely do as Blizzard suggested. Look up the authors of research you've read to see where they're located and what they're doing... 👍

Although this is not my concentration (I'm in a Masters program in Child Development),

I would take a look at Marina Bers' research at Tufts University in the Child Development Department. She is working with technology and children and researching creative curriculums with technology.
