I've read on auntminne that private radiologists read on average 80-150 studies per day. First off, is that true? Second, if you work a 10 hour day that comes out to about 4 or 5 minutes per study.

Since I know nothing about radiology, let me ask:
1) Does reading that many studies one after another become tedious?
2) Is reading that quickly very stressful?
3) If each study is only allocated a few minutes how do you feel confident that you are doing a good job and your aren't missing anything?
4) How does reading that many studies in private practice leave time for anything else? Or do they do nothing but sit in front of the computer all day reading studies?

good question. 4-5 minutes is in fact an eternity for anything on plain film; an experienced radiologist can usually go through these in about 30 seconds.

as for tedium, only you can answer that question. Some people will find radiology tedious, others will love the work. Same goes for surgery, IM rounds, etc. You get the idea. Spending some time in the reading room with the rads residents is the best way to see if you like what they do.
