Thank you for taking the time to read this post... I have recently received word that I will be needing teeth for the start of my dental curriculum in the fall. I was hoping I could turn to some of you experienced SDNers to guide me towards the right direction of where to obtain teeth.... or even any current dental students that may have extra teeth that they would share??? Please help!

Do a search for "collecting teeth" or something along those lines. You'll find many previous threads that will point you in the right direction.

Oral surgeons. Currently 5 are collecting for me, as well as 2 general dentists. I aim to get that number around 10 total. Just to give you an idea one jar after 2.5 months at one oral surgeon yielded about 30 teeth and only one of these was anterior.

Which school "requires" you bring your "own" (hahaha) teeth to you the first day of class? (Sounds kind of silly, but hey, it wouldn't be hard to get them.) Just curious as I have seen this kind of thread before and was just wondering which schools these were.

**List's please** 🙂

MCG wants 160 teeth. 100 on day one the other 60 by 2nd year for endo.

Thanks for replying Gary!

Wow! 160.... that is a lot of teeth. So I am guessing you guys get a good relationship with the oral surgerons.

Hope you get what you need!

This is what I heard from Admissions lady at Creighton

We don't use any of ours till the natural tooth block in the 2nd year. I guess we used some for tooth anatomy in morphology though.

Yep, seems to be quite a few. Maybe I should call my school and see if I need to collect. Thanks for answering me. 🙂

i think it would be more advantageous to collect teeth from a general dentist rather than on oral surgeon because you'll end up with mostly 3rd molars- which won't really be used anyway- and occasional premolars. But I would look up dentists who work in (lower income?) areas where people are less likely to keep their teeth (anteriors, canines, molars..) As with the oral surgeon, you'll get a lot of teeth, but honestly, quality of the teeth are much more important than quantity in this case.

good luck,

I agree! I haven't come across any such requirement for Penn. I guess I had better give them a call in the morning......

Find a dentist who advertises for "immediate dentures." By the very nature of the treatment, they'll be taking out a lot of more-or-less healthy teeth that will work great for dental school. I was the most popular guy in my class during lab periods where we needed extracted teeth last year. 😉

Don't forget about Periodontists. A perio guy is supplying most of my extracted teeth, most of them are perfectly healthy. OMS is going to be extracting mainly 3rds and severely decayed teeth, from my experience.

I know that OHSU requires students to collect 75-100 adult teeth by the fall term of 1st year. The more the better considering, as some others have stated, that not all the teeth collected will be usable. Hopefully by starting now I will be able to get more than enough.

I have had some luck finding anteriors from periodontists. but be prepared to wait a few months for them. Not to many people end up extracting decent teeth, and to be any good for endo the tooth can't be bombed out.

As well as tooth identification, and operative proceedures sophmore year.
Someone always has a huge jar, just be friendly and share with a gunner.

I am very impressed with your stats doc. So its about 17.5k a year to attend at MCG. Alot of ppl frown apon that school saying its sooo easy to get into. Do you agree. That's where I wanted to go...plus i am a GA resident and wanted in-state tuition.
