okay I have read all of these post about how overseas teleradiololgy is going to threaten the US radiologist. Some say this is definite, and others say it will never happen.

I suppose my thoughts are this. If teleradiology were to take off, we still would need radiologist in the US. Okay so some guy in Australia can read a film for 10K per year, that may be true. But when your patient needs an ultrasound guided biopsy, an abcess drained by CT guidance, an angiogram, a stent placed, well, you can't quite ship a patient to Australia for that can you?

So there will always be a need for radiologist. However, keep in mind that if telradiology becomes a threat that the US radiologist will no longer make 300-500K per year anymore.

So my opinion, and it is just an opinion so no attacks please, is this. If you like radiology, then go for it, don't let teleradiology be a concern for you. However, don't go into radiology for the money. I know a lot of radiologist get defensive when people say this but I do find it odd that as the average salary of a radiologist increases, so does the number of applicants to radiololgy programs. Don't do it for the money, do it simply because you enjoy the academics and radiology. If you do it for the money, you may get screwed!
