I just received a confirmation of my interview with all the travel information and an agenda. It looks like Temple is doing a group interview with all the prospective students in one room? I'll be there on Oct 6. Anyone going on the 6th that wants to meet up the night before and prepare for this or go check out the school?

Oooohhh...so they're doing it like at USC. I'm waiting to hear from Temple...

Oh those are the worst

I wouldn't worry about getting an interview at Temple. According to the e-mail they expect to interview 1/4 of Temple applicants. That's roughly 900 people interviewing for roughly 125 seats :scared: . I guess that leaves no room for error.

Hopefully this is the only school (that I applied to) that has this group format. I was getting ready for some one on one action  . Anyone have any tips on how to prepare for this one?

those group interviews seem really intimidating. I sure hope that they don't make people "fight" for speaking time. I personally love to talk but I have a difficult time cutting people off... I usually just wait for them to stop talking. Has anyone done a group interview before?

This guy at my school said when he went to a group interview, 1/2 the people there try to impress the interviewer by talking non-stop while the other half are people like us (silent or unable to cut off people). He said he wasn't silent, just say a few things when he found a chance...and he got accepted...maybe being too talkative is a bad thing at these interviews????

I can't see how it would help anyone to monopolize time. Can you imagine half of the room fighting to be heard. I guess it keeps the adcoms entertained. The only way to have a fair group interview is to lock us in a cage for a fight to the death. It'll be entertaining plus we'll have all the teeth we need for school  .

sounds dangerous.

I know USC does a group interview. And now, Temple too. Do you guys know of any other schools that have group interviews?

yoyoo i'll be there oct 3rd too...yea the group thing is freaking me out

hey....i just got a letter from temple for interview!!!! haven't call them yet to schedule anything. wanna go to nyu first. still waiting for boston.

teh group interview is easy. My buddy is there right now and said just don't come off as a loud mouth who hogs all the time. They do ask each person specific questions meaning everyone has a fair amount of time to speak.

They also do want to see how you interact with other with group questions.

I hear it is nothing to sweat at all. Nothing like ASDOH's interview.

🙂 kool. I'll see you there then! If I am not mistaking you have interview w/ UMDNJ as well right? When is your UMDNJ interview? Mine is on Oct 20

Temple has been doing the group interview for awhile now. You will be asked specific questions, so answer those well when asked, be professional (don't cut others off, talk too much, etc) and you will do fine. Everyone at Temple is great and really makes you feel comfortable. I interviewed at a bunch of schools, and if you can get past the neighborhood (which is great for patients, you will do a lot more procedures here than most places) then this really is one of the best schools in the country. Just relax, be yourself, and everything will work out for you. You got an interview, so you deserve to be there, remember this and you will fine.

p.s. So far Temple has over 2,500 applications, so feel good about your interview invite. It is competitive and you are one of the best applicants. Congrats.

Glad to hear that it will not be so bad.. I'll be there Sept. 27, anyone else?

can someone please tell me the date range they are interviewing? thanks

cool thanks...that's crazy!!!! till march?!!!! i'll most likely go nov. anyone else going in november??

HAHAH so is mine!!! that's funny

Just thought I'd give some advice on the group interview...

I interviewed at Temple last year (in the group format). You do not have to worry about 'fighting' for talking time or even talking at all if you're a shy person. They break the entire group down into smaller, more manageable groups (maybe around 5-10 people or so). They then ask you a question and they go around the room and everyone answers that question, then they go back and ask the next question. It wasn't bad at all so if you're stressing out about it, calm down. I'll give you all a warning though, the interview guy from temple, Brian, reads student doctor network everyday. As soon as you get to the interview he'll mention that he reads the forums to find out what people have to say about temple. So keep your comments professional.

In my opinion, none of you are going to come up with anything amazing that the interviewers haven't heard before. You'll probably all say the exact same stuff that you think they want to hear. Be yourself, be professional to your interviewer and the other interviewees. Practice the interview format with your significant other or your parents or friends, etc... Make sure that you don't get overly nervous. Keep in mind that the people that are interviewing you are your future peers, they want someone who is going to act the part of a dental professional, so be respectful to everyone.

So basically, dont drop your name in sdn. i am gonna have to change my profile now. thanks for the advice though. if they ask all 5-10 people the same question, wont we end up repeating ourselves 5-10 times over? well like you said, nothing we say will exactly shake the earth. at this point it just seems the interview is meant to weed out the "bad" applicants versus rake in the good applicants. does that make sense?
are there actually that many people rejected as a result of a "bad" interview? it seems like we will all have the same interview, esp. if we all have the same question. how will they choose 125 out of 900 w/ such similar interviews?

i am not really expecting anyone to answer all these questions, maybe just an idea or "hypothesis"

which airport is closed to Temple ? ( PHL or QHP)
anyone knows that ?

PHL. its philadelphia international and temple is in philly.

thank you so much~~~

How to withdraw my interview date, if I already scheduled one?

Not true. I did a ballsy move and posted my pics and everything here and still got in.

They are also only intervieing about 400 people, so if you get an interview you did something right. The group interview is laid back. Just be yourself, let the dice fall where they may.

Brian, it looks like I am still addicted to SDN...does Temple Health offer intervention programs?
