Title: Temple (OOS) vs. UMD (OOS)
(Rutgers is also an option for me... OOS)

Post:
School 1: Temple
Cost- 359,090

Pros:
  • close to home (an hour)
  • amazing clinical requirements
  • know people there
  • would know some ppl in my incoming class
  • would be able to be in a proper city (would live in center city)
  • digital lab
  • high board pass rate
Cons:
  • cost is higher if accepted
  • small building (trivial)
  • students live all over the city
  • most ppl seem to not specialize (I am not sure if I want to specialize or not)
  • no global volunteer experience
School 2: UMD
Cost- 432,338... I could apply for residency and then total would be 300,431 if accepted as Maryland Resident (but not guaranteed)

Pros:
  • well established
  • better location
  • also good clinical experience
  • students live very close by to each other and are close to campus
  • has many surrounding postgrad schools
  • not too far from my home
  • seems to have better remediation policies compared to what I have heard at Temple
  • Diamond scholars/clerkships
  • high board pass rate
Cons:
  • only know one person there
  • Stab lab (I know this is trivial)
  • may need a car
  • farther from home compared to Temple
  • construction
  • Do not want to live here as much as Philly
Summary: I was/am leaning towards Temple as I feel like I have more of a community there but after talking to a D2 I know that goes to UMD I am now confused. I have also heard UMD's rankings are better than Temple but have also heard vice versa from two different dentists. I care about price but do not believe ~ 60k difference is that great to only choose based on that. Please let me know what you think or if there are any other factors I should think about. Also- I am from Delaware so there is no in state option for me

are the dollar amounts total cost of attendance or tuition only?
i think you should add rutgers pro/cons to the list

what are you talking about when you say stab lab is a con?

This is only the tuition.

Tution- 280,000 (but using 2022-2023 data)-
Rutgers
Pros-
Good clinical program
Global volunteering opportunities
Not too far away from home (2 hours)
Liked their clinic space
high board pass rate
small class size

Cons-
Location- would have to live on campus + dont like Newark
Would need a car
Not sure about cost (the financial presentation was not up to date but someone on sdn said 463k after getting IS after first year)
seem extremely strict
do not know anyone who went there

Why are you using 2022-2023 data (two years old) when more recent estimates are available? You should also always do the math yourself rather than rely on what others have shared. Note: I gave you links to 2024-2025 COA estimates for each school above.

My bad, I calculated manually but used old data.
Here is the recalculated prices (COA)
Rutgers COA- 432,103 (IS after first year)
Temple COA- 486,946
UMD COA- 484,603

If unable to reclassify at UMD, you would be facing at least $625k+ plus annual increases for D1 through D4 and capitalized interest. You’ll have to decide if you’re willing to accept this base amount (rather than the reclassified base amount) before committing. Note: This is more expensive than all three ivies.
