Ok, I just got my 1st year fall semester bill. I applied for financial aid and I got the full 38,500 they offer for out of state tuition. Doesn't financial aid take the living expense budget into account also? I am really naive when it comes to this sort of thing so I need some explanations. I have a ~3500 bill here and I don't understand why my loans are not covering it. Shouldn't my balance be 0 for the first semester? HELP!!!!!
Someone please explain this to me. I will probably call Temple soon.

you have a freshman kit which is about $5000 that they add all at once in the fall semester so since the stafford loans distibute evenly (1/2 fall semester, 1/2 spring semester), it's not gonna cover it all for this semester. If you applied for temple based loans, those usually don't come out until like september...if you did apply, i wouldn't worry about paying off the bills b/c it will be credited later....(i had the same concern last year...=oP)...if you didn't apply for those loans, then you need to find a way to pay off the balance for this semester or take out a deal loan or something...

I don't think i applied for temple based loans. When did we get info for that????????? I am out totally out of the loop here. I called dental admissions and the lady explained some stuff to me. I guess I need to apply for a loan on the side.
blah. I'm an idiot.

if you turned in your parents tax info to the financial aid office and in your fasfa, you will automatically be considered for the temple based loans...other loans you can do is from www.key.com...they're alternative deal loan for dental students...but it shouldn't be too late if you turn in your parents info now....you should work it out with the financial aid office...they'll know more..

Ok, thanks cusp of carabelli. I turned in my parents info about three weeks ago as per temple's request, so I think I'll try and find out what the deal is tomorrow. serenity now.

Hey Korg,

Yes, definitely check w/ temple to see if they even have your parents income tax info and W2's, including yours also. You also need to send proof of US citizenship. I also sent my parent's info long ago, but when I called the school, they said that they never received it. I had to send my parent's info and my info again; you may have to do the same as well. Also ask about the alternative loan...they should've given you an application after processing your FAFSA and taking the Stafford loans into account. Hope this helps!

Yeah, that instrument bill the first semester hurts! My finances are I'll be fine in the spring, but are very close in the fall. I?m doing the best I can to save some money this summer and cut cost so I can afford to make it until spring! Good luck!

I think I also read somewhere that we should ignore any bill they send us. It will be taken care of through our loans the firs week of school. I got a statement that told me my expenses and how much aid I received for the fall term but none of the aid was applied yet and there was a $0 balance to be paid. So, we can just wait. I?m sure they?ll get our money before classes!
