Hello everyone....

Being that all of these are private, and thus costly...financing the school will be about the same. So what I wanted to know was which would you choose, and based on what? There are hard decisions to be made!

Hey Claudia.....I dont know anything about USC but regarding Temple Vs. Tufts.....I think they are both great schools but when you say the cost is the same, I would have to disagree.

I bought a cheap small condo in Philly and will get instate residency. If this is an option for you as well, I calculated that I would save 100K by going to Temple over Tufts. Add interest on that, and thats one helluva savings! 😱

However, if getting residency is not an option, you still would save a lot of money because renting in Philly is much cheaper than Boston...Also taking account the SLIGHT difference in school costs would save alot as well because it would add up. Here is a breakdown of costs at both schools WITHOUT rent:

1st year --> Tufts: $50,119 Temple: $43, 051 Difference: $7,068
2nd year --> Tufts: $49,566 Temple: $40,858 Difference: $8,708
3rd year --> Tufts: $45,909 Temple: $37,236 Difference: $8,673
4th year ---> Tufts: $44,694 Temple: $37,236 Difference: $7,458

Total difference on school costs alone: $31,907

Add that on top of the savings on rent, you would probalby save 50K over the 4 years and live in a much better place. However, it depends on what you want. If you want to live in a city like Boston and decide its worth the extra 50-100K, then go for it. Personally, I didnt think it was worth it.

ALso, according to the ADEA book from a couple of years ago, USC is also very very expensive and I assume this will rise with all the talk of Arnold raising tuition costs (dont know if this affects private school such as USC), but it is California and you couldnt complain of sun and beach 😀

Claudia, it all depends on what is most important for you....money, location, education, etc.

If its only money, then goto Temple. If its education, well all 3 schools have the reputation of giving the best clinical education in the country so you cant go wrong with either.....if its location, well its Philly Vs. Boston Vs. LA. Your choice!

if you're from Ca, GO TO U$C... if you're from the east coast... then i don't know

I'm not here to beef up Temple or brag by any means, but the accrediation commitee for the ADA just left our school last week and we recieved Zero (0) checks or marks against the school and accomidations for the Ortho and AEGD and Endo programs. May not mean much to you because you aren't in school yet and it might not really effect me till I apply for a specialty or job, which ever it may be. I know the school has pulled a 180 since the last 2 or 3 times they underwent accrediation. They went from 40 some marks to 20 and now zero. I guess that means things can't get much better at Temple from the point of view of the ADA. I chose Temple because of the huge patient pool and high requirement base. I gotta pull 125 teeth/procedures and that is only going to get me a C in Oral Surgery.....200 is an A. High expectations here and tons of experience will hep prepare you for the real world. Nothng against USC or Tufts, I can only speak for Temple.

i'd go to temple

temple and tufts are both good clinical uni's..
...i like temple b/c of that patient pool and procedures you'll get to do..
ummm..tuffs is expensive but had a great vietnamese eatery somewhat near it.

🙂

...i didnt apply to usc so i know nada bout it.

Considering you're from Florida, you'd definately enjoy sunny California more than Boston or Philly.

USC all the way!

Guys this thread was started awhile ago. And to boot she already chose Tufts (no brainer). 😀

how is NYU clinically??????????

Hey everyone!!

I did start this thread a while ago, and have chosen as Bickle mentioned Tufts. Although I?m from Florida, I want a change in weather, and seasons. Tufts was awesome when I went to visit, and the problem based learning at USC just was not for me. Furthermore, Temple was not in exactly the best location. But thanks all for your help...maybe this thread can help others who might be in a similar dilemma..

EHA DDS,
NYU is great clinicly. You will so many patients thats you wont have time to see them. by the middle of the third year, your schedule will be full. and you will see so many different cases.
However,they suck in thier academic. Once you get in any other school, thier mission is to make you a dentist. However at NYU, you are given a chance to become a dentist. not ecessary you will become a dentist. They accpet 250-60 and in 2nd yr they add another 100-20 foregin students and they only have room for 300 students in the clinic. So go figure what measures they will take to kick out the extra students. and that's what we are going through at this point. It's not a very intersting sitution to be. either you or someone you know or a very good friend is getting kicked out. and it doesn't matter how great the clinic is.

If your looking to save $$ goto Temple. And if you want a name goto Tufts or USC.

Well I would argue that Temple has just as good of a name as the other two, but what do I know? But I do know two things.....One is how to make a signature on SDN, something that Dentin obviously still cannot figure out and two, Im gonna take the 100K I save at Temple and perhaps put it down towards a nice, big house....or a nice car....and of course, use it for lots and lots of travelling!

I would go tufts all the way!!!
