Hey guys,
I want your opinions especially current and grad temple students. My family is currently going through a financial situation and with my sibling at PSU, I'm considering going to temple because we will have to take no loans and it will cost me approx. 2k per year as I will commute. My main problem is Temple Bio department's rep. I only hear kids say negative things about the department especially about how impossible the intro to bio courses are and the failure rates. Temple is my financial safety and I have heard great things. I have received some merit from the school. Any advice or opinions from personal experience regarding the bio department.

My basis HS stats so you can understand that I'm strong compared to the general student body there

HS GPA: 3.4
ACT: 27
APs: 7
AP Bio-3 ( I did not study at all for the exam because i did not plan to use the credit but i can skip intro bio at temple)
AP world and Ap Us- 4
Current:
AP Chem, AP Calc AB, Ap Macro and AP Micro.

This is not a dumb chance thread

Temple? Temple is a great school, and you can certainly get in.

I have been accepted already with a scholarship... I just wanted thoughts on the bio department from what I hear they like to fail a lot of people in the intro courses.

Maybe they're jealous?
Temple has a great science program. If you fail your courses, you're not cut out to be a physician. I don't think it's harder than any other reputable program.

Any introductory course at a large public university is bound to fail a lot of students. It may have nothing to do with the material presented but rather many students are simply not prepared for the transition from high school to college and the self-motivation to study when you don't have parents and teachers haranguing you about homework.

I am not aware of any wholesale issues with Temple and if you feel it's the best choice for you financially then I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for clearing it up. I'm just nervous I guess after hearing people doing poorly. Any study tips you guys don't mind inboxing me especially the core pre-med track courses?

Thanks again

If you're pre-med, I'm almost certain you need to take two semesters college bio. Med schools don't accept AP credit. Temple is a great school, and don't let the failure rates discourage you. I'm at Ohio State right now (which in ohio is known to have impossible chemistry courses). It isn't as bad as everyone makes it up to seem.
