For those of you who have been accepted, what kind of jobs are you working until school starts? I'm looking for a simple gig that gets the most bang for the buck to pay off some damage from this app cycle, doesn't have to be medical-related. Any suggestions? Nothing illegal please.

I do analytical chemistry lab work... I am contracted to a company for a decent chunk of change.

I work for a temp agency doing brainless data entry. Best job ever, pay is decent and I don't have to think or work hard. Beats EMT or anything medical related that I'm qualified for.

Subsitute teach at your local school district. It is rewarding and you get to choose your work days.

+5

I also recommend a teaching gig, whether it's substitute teaching as UT suggested, or being a tutor somewhere. It's so much fun!!!

I'm tutoring right now but it's strictly volunteer work for now. Do you need a teaching license to be a substitute teacher?

I'm sure it varies by state, but here in Texas you don't need a teaching license, just your Bachelors degree. You just go register with the school district and get put on the "substitute call list".

In Michigan, you need 90+ credits with at least a 2.0 GPA at a degree granting university or college

I was in the same situation, as I needed a full-time job (with benefits) until I start school next year. So, I decided to get a job doing something that was something I enjoyed, in the non-medical field (now or never, right?). I just got hired at Whole Foods and I work in the body care/supplement section. My nutritional/physiological background is helpful, I get to help people and do health-related things in a different aspect. So I'd look at what you like doing outside of medical work and pursue that interest for the timebeing!

Hooking doesn't require a degree, does it?

Kidding... not

Yeah, as soon as I found that out I changed my major from Women's Studies to Sociology.

Should've stuck with biology... to be the best, you gotta know where the free nerve endings are. 😉

True. But my sociology degree helped me hone my communication and listening skills, thus increasing the probability for nerve ending exploration.

Slave at your neighborhood grocery store doing all sorts of things .... good money though

I'm no expert on hooking, but I'm pretty sure there's no communicating or listening involved! Maybe Wily can share his... expertise... on the matter.

I am providing private tutorings for a good chunk of change...I am still looking for something that can give me more work hours though.

Got hooked up by a friend to a vendor job for Microsoft. Scheduling interviews for em through April.. then maybe some tutoring job or 3 months of break 🙂

I suggest reaching out to your friends. It's all about referals these days. So many resumes flood in to jobs posted on craigslist...

I'm an old lady, and I have been working in various immunology labs for the last 3.5 years, so I'll stick around here (OMRF, for those that recognize it) until classes start. It will be an adjustment to leave a salary behind, but so so worth it!

I am going to continue to work in infectious disease research. Now that I am graduated they will be able to pay me better than anywhere else that would hire me until August. Last summer I started a window washing business for a side job and did pretty well for the limited amount of hours I put into it, so when it gets warm enough I will start it up again. If door to door sales, hard work and squeegees are up your ally PM me and I will tell what I did if you want to try it in your area.

What if only 2 out of the 3 are up my alley?

If door to door sales are the problem there is always Craig’s list, phone sales, or passing out car fliers at malls or something. If hard physical work is the problem you could not work hard and give them low quality for a high cost and not need repeat clients:meanie:. If you have a deep :scared: for squeegees there is always paper towels and windex. If there is a will there is a way! 😀

PS I might add not afraid of heights because you can be frequently on roofs and extension ladders, unless you choose not work on houses that would require that.
