When an internal alkyne is reacted with KmnO4,OH/H+ 2 carboxylic acids form correct? According to Kaplan this forms a carboxylic acid and CO2. Can anyone confirm which is correct?

Internal alkynes give carboxy acids.....only when the double bond is on the VERY END does CO2 form. . Let us do an example.....If we treat 2-pentyne with hot KMn04, we get acetic and propanoic acid. If we treat 1-pentyne, we get butanoic acid and CO2.
