i really need an honest opinion, so please be brutal. i just took the dat yesterday, oct. 26, which i think is a little late. i'm not too happy with my scores because i was hoping my science scores would make up for my low gpa. i have a overall of 3.13, sci = 2.77, bcp = 2.67, and non-sci= 3.6. my dat scores are aa=20, pa=25, qr=19, rc=22, bio=20, gc=19, oc=18, total=20. my top choices are uop and usc. i also applied to ucla, boston, nyu, tufts, and ohsu. my real question is whether i'm competitive enough to get into uop and usc because i feel my dat scores don't really help my gpa. getting into ucla would be a dream come true, but i am pretty realistic about that. d=

I talked to both USC and UOP. I have similar stats except your pat is so much higher, and my GPA is 3.5. The lady from UoP suggested me to retake the DAT. They are looking for 20's accross all three (bio/chem) sections. So you may have problem there. USC said 20+ on AA is competitive. FYI, UCSF, UCLA and Loma Linda also said similar things to USC. Just UOP that stands out. I guess it's bc of their 3-year program. Good luck.

Nice numbers,

I think you have a very good chance for USC. It all depends on the number of applicants this year. But keep your hopes up for USC. I am sure you are very competative for NYU and Boston.

By the way, at this point, you have done all you could have. At this point, just let the destiny to take care of the rest.

Thanks,

thank you, guys. i must admit my disappointment at my chance of getting into uop, but i am pretty happy that i do have a chance a few other schools. i am not yet doomed! *relief* good luck to you too!

Luder,

When you say you have talked to USC/UOP/UCLA etc... who exactly have you talked to? Was it the admissions coordinator/counsler? I have often thought about calling but I am afraid to annoy them. Also, does this mean you haven't received an interview from USC? You suggested I retake the DAT to increase my PAT score, did someone at USC suggest that to you as well?

Mad props to UOP. They have 20+ avg across the board yet a gpa avg of 3.28....simply amazing!

I know of schools with 3.5+ GPA avg that can't even touch that DAT...what are those applicants drinking 🙂

That would be my dream too since I live 15 min from ucla. Wow! 25 on PAT? How did u study for that? I was getting 23, 24 on the practice and bombed on the real one getting 18. Just so much harder.

i took a perceptual workshop and a wax-carving course at ucla. i think they help somewhat, but i always had a lot more trouble with the sciences than the PAT. i'm not sure how most people study for it, but i have to picture the shapes in 3-d and rotate them in my head. if i can't picture it, i probably wouldn't get it right.

I'm not suggesting you anything. I'm just like you. I told you what the schools told me. But for UOP, 14 on PAT will hurt you for sure. That is below their min (16). From the conversation, it sounds like they probably won't look at us. But I still sent in $75 to activate my file. USC is different, they do look at each score, but just for reference purpose. AA is more important to them. 20+ and a decent GPA should be good enough to get an invitation. The schools have not received my app yet. I sent in late (Oct 15). Oh, I talked to different people at different schools. Don't be afraid, just call them. They probably will forget you in a day or two. Plus, what you are asking is very reasonable. Good luck!
