So I just took my 1st TS yesterday and what a disaster it was.... I could not complete a single section in time and had to literary do last 10 questions in each, really EACH section in less than 2 mins...in science it was my mistake, I had almost 10 mins remaining when I was on Q. 85 and i dont know what I was thinking I though i just have 5 more quest. in 10 mins and ended up spending more time on the very next question that I was not sure... only when I reached Q 90 with 20 mins remaining I realized I have 10 more questions to do....

RC: I was all over the place, tried VicViper's RC strategy for 1st and go so lost that I ended up spending 35 mins for 1st passage.. the rest I used S&D....but the damage was already done...not saying that the strategy is bad, i guess it just did not work for me...

Here are the scores:

Bio: 18
GC: 20 - i dont get this, I only had 4 questions wrong on this...shouldn't that be more than 20....
OC: 16 - time ran out and missed even guessing on the last 3 questions...
PAT - 18
RC: 16
QR - 22
TS 18
AA 18

What do you guys think....any advice....

I ran out of time on my first TS sciences too, and did much worse. People have said that the real DAT doesn't have as many calculations as TS (its just setting up). They have also said that OC and GC are a little tougher on TS than the real thing. See if you would have been able to solve the problems without paying attention to the time-then you will know if you are ready.

Also, you will definitely improve on the second go-around. Don't get discouraged!

Thanks for the advice...

I hope I do better on second test...

These scores are really discouraging...

You will! I definitely did. (I'm taking my third TS 2m). I'm pretty sure our tests are on the same day (30th). It's nice to know that I'm not the only one that's really nervous! 😉

mines on the 28th, and i too am taking TS. i ran out of time my first time. do not fret my friend, your second time will improve.

also, theres a polll around here somewhere, but ppl score 1-3 points higher on the real dat than TS. Most of the time. I wouldnt worry bro, you are on track to get a peachy score. just study hard and represent monday.

Thanks dude.. I really hope 2nd test goes better...

I still am confuse though with my GC score.. how come only 4 wrong gives a score of 20... does this make sense???

good luck with ur studies...

yes it makes sense. flip to page 730 of your KBB. Dat scoring works a lil like this. none wrong, 30. one wrong, bump down to 27, another wrong 24 etc. i have no idea of the algorithm. but i do know 4/30 wrong on the dat is 20, rule of thumb.

the difference between a 20 and a 30 on a short 30 question section is merely a few questions (its certainly not a one for one relationship).

remember, 20 is a sexcellent score. SDN attracts ~ 10% of applicants, and usually its the ballers. dont get discouraged at all the high ass scores you are seeing, theyre the exception and not the rule.

I get it now... thanks dude...

Try to get a bit faster. Yes, the real test does not have too many calculations, but you want to make sure you finish with about 10-15 mins left so that you can review some of the problems. Just keep practicing and you will get faster.

Thanks Dude... yes that is what I am planning on doing next few days.. take as many tests as I can....

any other tips for last few days...any particular ritual...

I agree! I would not recommend taking any practice test a few days before your test. Just do a gigantic review of all of your material. What I mean is review EVERYTHING that you took notes on, read, etc. I went through the whole AP bio book and Kaplan in one day; Chem from Kaplan, Chad notes, and chad quizzes another day; and ochem from Kaplan, class notes, Chad notes, and chad quizzes another day. I then reviewed all of the marked destroyer problems. The reason I recommend that you do not take any test a few days before is so that you can have the material fresh in your head for the test. Also, you don't want to score low and kill your confidence (like I did when I got a 19 on that crappy Kaplan test). My fiance and I both reviewed during the last few days before the test and ended up with similar scores!

On the day of the test, be calm, composed, and confident. If you see something you do not know, mark it and move on. Do not freak out! I kept telling myself not to worry about one question, because I have to tackle the test and not just one problem. I think having a positive attitude and being calm helped me perform really well on test day.

Good luck! You are going to dominate the test! 🙂
